2005-2006 Recipient of the Ronale Sanjay Naidu Foundation Award at Simon Fraser University

Ljubo's Thank You Letter to the Foundation:

 Dear Ronale Foundation Members,

I grew up playing the game that so many around the world love for its passion, integrity, and culture. Soccer has taught me many things such as work ethic, problem solving, and competitiveness, yet the lesson it taught me most is that the sum of the whole is greater than each of its individual parts. In other words, achieving a goal with a group of individuals only can work if everyone combines their efforts to create a single entity. I have had many teammates throughout my soccer career, but not all of them felt that way. Some did not possess the ability to work well with others, to impact the team in a positive way. Some were only there for themselves, not worrying about the team’s goal, but their own personal glory. I have met a few people in my life that allowed me to realize how much better we can become as hum! an beings if we only worked together. This is one of the reasons that I feel truly blessed to have met Ronale. He has taught me so much more than what can be picked up from a game. Asides from being a true friend for the period of time I knew him, Ronale allowed me to see a side of myself that I did not know existed. A side that I tried to open up, filled with compassion for the people around me. I started to understand that a smile can be contagious, and that I can be more than the type A, competitive, aggressive individual that has trouble working well with others. I have tried to tie in “ don’t sweat the small stuff” into my natural vocabulary. Ronale loves his family and friends above everything else, and I want to be like that. To allow people to see the way we as humans should really be….good to each other… A true gentleman in all respects...that is Ronale.

I am sincerely greatful for receiving this honor that you have given me. I know that I will be working my hardest in the classroom and on the field to represent it with all of my ability. I would also like to thank the foundation for all they have done for Ronale. It does not go unnoticed. The bench is set up in a beautiful destination at Vanier park. I visit it often to reflect on my life and that of Ronale’s, for I believe, that a little bit of his spirit lives within all of those that he has impacted. I would also like to comment on the brilliant organization of Ronale's indoor soccer tournament. I am dissapointed that I was not able to attend this year due to some unwanted circumstances, but I am looking forward to being there for many more years to come.

...Thank you Raj, Suzie, Daniel and Vince for this oppurtunity.
